What is the point of performing PPAP analysis?
Even the smallest, incorrectly selected element is able to disrupt the effective operation of electronic devices. To avoid this problem, a detailed PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) analysis is performed. As the name suggests, the analysis is based on a careful selection of elements allowed for further production process. PPAP analysis leads to the creation of an efficient and properly operating complete product.
Restrictive requirements in the production process
Manufacturers must comply with various directives and ordinances aimed at limiting the use of hazardous materials and chemicals. In addition, the recipient himself also sets high standards, which require that manufacturers check the components and act in accordance with the provided guidelines. The fact that the whole process is based on 18 multi-page specialized documents is the best proof of how difficult PPAP analysis is.
What is the specialized PPAP analysis?
As we have already said, this is a procedure that allows the selection of elements used in production. Most often, PPAP analysis is used in the automotive market, but not only. The manufacturer is obliged to comply with restrictive criteria, and must also prove to the customer that he uses appropriate components. Evidence of consistency is provided on a five-level scale. Detailed conditions depend on individual customer needs.
How is component compatibility confirmed?
The recipient of the final product decides how the manufacturer will be obliged to present proof of the compatibility of selected parts. Proof is provided at one of five levels:
Level 1: PSW guarantee (Part Submission Warrant ) and compliance report.
Level 2: samples of selected parts and detailed documentation
Level 3: PSW guarantee, samples, all documents related to the selection of parts
Level 4: PSW guarantee and selection of elements according to customer expectations
Level 5: PSW guarantee, product samples, complete data and documents confirmed by a specific production department.
In most cases, the proof of compatibility is provided in accordance with the level 3 requirements, although of course there are situations in which the customer selects specific elements himself and requires the submission of complete documentation by the manufacturer.
PSW guarantee - final stage of PPAP analysis
If the PPAP analysis is successful and the target recipient accepts the selection of individual elements, the PSW guarantee is formulated, i.e. submitted parts warranty. This is the manufacturer's certificate, which guarantees that the product complies with the customer's expectations. The warranty includes an identification number and a detailed description of the product, as well as the reasons for which a detailed PPAP analysis was carried out. The international PPAP procedure is derived directly from the American quality system QS-9000.
